The Rae pants // Named Clothing

This’ll probably my last summery make of the year!

I’d been meaning to make the Rae pants from the Named Clothing book Breaking the Pattern for a few months. (Check out my YouTube run through of the book here!). I thought they’d make a great summer staple as a swishy breezy casual trouser. It took me a while to get around to making them though!

But boy I’m glad I did!

The pattern is a wide legged trouser with an elasticated waistband, pockets and a long front vent in each pant leg. I’d seen them in real life when I’d met the Finnish sisters last year when they were in London and was wowed at how they looked!

I decided to make mine a little shorter than the originals to make them like culottes rather than a full length trouser. I thought it captured a more summer-y look! To do this I just shortened each leg pattern piece at the hem to where I wanted.

This was a really simple sew. You can see why it’s included towards the front of the book – it’s definitely a project that would help you build confidence as it’s something easy to fit and looks fab!

I’ve made mine out of a viscose twill that I got from Like Sew Amazing (I don’t think this particular colour is still available but she has a few others!). I do think these pants need a nice lightweight fabric that drapes well otherwise they could look too voluminous!

I’ve ended up with quite a bit of the twill left over so I’m thinking of making a matching camisole. That way it’ll look like a jumpsuit when I wear them together!
