Yellow bridesmaids dresses // self drafted

Last wedding post I promise!

I fell for a light yellow and gold cloqué fabric whilst browsing at the Fabric Textile Central shop in Walthamstow whilst shopping for all the other wedding bits. I hadn’t intended it for a bridesmaid dress at the time of purchase (for £7/metre I got it on a whim!) but after some mulling, I decided to convince my sisters that this’ll be a fun choice for a second bridesmaid outfit!

I decided to make another of my trusty poofy Cecilie Bahnsen-esque gathered dresses for my own bridesmaid dress. It’s one I’ve made three times before, each time tweaking it and improving the base pattern, and I’ve always loved the end result.

This time I added a shelf bra inside using some of the left over ponte knit from the second wedding dress. I used this in place of the lining of the bodice which had the added bonus of giving me a nice smooth surface against my skin. I cut the knit lining fabric slightly smaller than the main body and used some elastic at the edge to give it some support.

For my little sister’s dress, I decided to go a bit more off piste. I was inspired by several Sister Jane dresses that came up on my Pinterest in my research phase and loved the idea for her.

I used the Anna Allen Anthea dress as a base for the bodice and sleeve – though I slimmed down the bodice a fair bit to get the fit I wanted.

The bodice front had a centre seam and a keyhole opening. The neckline was finished with a stand collar connected to a pussy bow to finish and close. The skirt was made out of gathered rectangle the width of the fabric.

Considering I made it without her trying it on (or taking new measurements for that matter), I think the fit turned out spot on!

(Both my sisters are scary trusting in my ability to make them clothes that will look good!)

I love the yellow dresses way more than the green ones which is typical of me, as they cost less money and were also faster to make.

Still, it was an amazing day(s), full of love and joy and totally worth all the effort – would 100% do it all over again!
