Vogue 8946 – a gift!

It’s lovely to be able to use your sewing skills to make beautiful one of a kind gifts for your loved ones. If they turn out well at any rate…

Here’s one I’ve made recently. It’s the Vogue 8946 which I made for my mum for her birthday!

I opted for the long sleeve version in this lovely abstract rose printed jersey and lined with a mint green tricot jersey.

The pattern was pretty easy to follow. I pretty much threw away the instructions when I started making it so I have no idea how they compare but I don’t think there’s too many ways you can go wrong with this one! I opted not to add a zip (what’s the point? The jersey was more than stretchy enough) which made it even quicker to make.

It did come up really long though so I chopped off about 10 inches from the bottom – apparently the vogue ‘customer’ is crazy tall. Same goes for the sleeve. I ended up making it a 3/4 length sleeve because I know my mum likes those!

I love the pleated detail on the front on the dress. It’s really quite flattering.

  1. That looks great. I tried making my dad a surprise shirt last Christmas… I’ve discovered the trouble with surprise shirts is they don’t fit! (Not when I make them!) … No surprises this year, I’m taking measurements & samples!
    Great blog too πŸ‘

    1. Thank you! 😊

Oh dear! Yeah, surprises don’t always work out too well! If it’s a surprise outfit I’ll always try to make something that’ll stretch to reduce the risk of things not fitting! Unfortunately I don’t think you can get away with that with men’s shirts…

  2. Such a lovely dress, so kind if you too, I’m not great at selfless sewing but I’m trying to do more

  3. This looks gorgeous! Your mum is very lucky! I really like the little label you put in it too. I have this fabric too I’m sure, I got it in one of the shops in Walthamstow. I wish I’d kept mine for a dress or top, instead I tried to make leggings with it but it just didn’t have enough stretch. I’m hoping I can rescue the fabric for something else!
