Caving to trends and making my own satin bomber…

I think regardless of whether I like something or not, if you wave it about in front of my face for long enough, I’ll want it…

That’s what seems to have happened with these jackets! They first came onto the scene a couple of years ago (I remember seeing them in Zara back then) and I thought they were nice but I’d never actually wear one. And now? Totally caved. I think they’re awesome now! How times have changed!

I found the Rosa jacket pattern from Wear Lemonade, a French pattern company/ clothes shop, which I thought would work. Annoyingly after I bought that one, I found the Rigel jacket from Papercut patterns which may work better… Rigel or Rosa? Who knows what would be better. They’re kinda the same. But not…

So back to the pattern I did get!

Beautiful packaging delivered straight from France!

(The instructions are all in French by the way so brush up on your French skills before purchase!)

I’ve already bought my fabrics from my last shop on Goldhawk Road- enough to make me and both my sisters jackets! We’re gonna look so cool… I went for duchesse satins which are a little thicker so I’m hoping they’ll be a bit warmer too. I’m gonna mix them up with some florals I already have as well.

I’m also planning to personalise each one further with some machine embroidery. I took a course a few months ago (you can read my post on it here) so I’m hoping to make use of my new skills to make something beautiful! Or at least not screw it up too much…

Keep an eye out for these in the (hopefully) near future!

  1. I saw pics on your instagram (link via this blog..cos I still don’t have instagram), and boy, what you’re doing with this satin bomber is mind blowingly epic. Can’t wait to see the finished product(s)!

    1. Thank you! It’s definitely my most ambitious project to date. I think it’ll be a while to complete it, partly because I’m spending half the time on my phone translating the French instructions though…
