The Tilly and the Buttons Frankie tee

I think Wednesday is officially Tilly day at Self Assembly Required HQ!

Today I’ve got a new make from her new book Stretch to share with you – the Frankie tee!

Now t-shirts are a dime a dozen in the sewing pattern biz. From indie companies to the Big 4, there’s sure to be a style and fit that suits you!

The Frankie tee from Tilly and the Buttons is a great choice if you’re the curvy shape that Tilly designs for (I’m in that category! 🙋🏼‍♀️) as it’s designed to skim over the hips so perfectly.

It’s a really simple sew and can definitely be sewn in under an hour. Raglan sleeves are definitely the easiest kind of sleeves to sew in!

I’ve got 3 versions to show you today!

First up is the one from the book of course! (I didn’t make it, I’m just modelling it!).

This is the short sleeve version with the V neck patch on the front.

(This is my fave photo of me from the book. I think it’s the only one I feel like I’m genuinely smiling in!)

I made a tester version with the long sleeves out of some remnant pieces of fabric.

My most recent one is a pink floral one!

I’ve shortened the sleeves here to make it 3/4 length. Don’t look too close though, I totally messed up the neck band at the back!

I got this floral jersey at a fabric swap and the grey contrast jersey was 50p from a remnant shop. This is definitely sewing on a budget!

I really like the fit of these t-shirts. I wear a lot of these types of shirts to work – they’re perfect to wear underneath scrubs – so I can see myself making a lot more of these in future!
