My August Sewing List

2016 is just flying by! It’s August already! I really need to start being more productive – I had big goals for 2016 which have mostly just slipped away with a lack of organisation and drive… This is me trying to get back on track now!

So baby steps first!

Here’s my sewing list for August! I’ve picked out new patterns and fabrics and I’m setting myself a deadline to get them made by the end of the month.

1. République du Chiffon’s Josie dress

2. Deer + Doe’s Mélilot shirt dress hack – a long and a short version

3. Simplicity sewing challenge!

I’m planning to enter 2 – the vintage and dressmaker sections. The fabric choices here are provisional. I’m having a hard time deciding what I want to do for them!

4. One of my sisters has a birthday coming up and if there’s time I’ll probably make something for her too. I won’t put details up here yet (she reads this blog, or so she tells me).

What do you think of my list? I should be able to accomplish it as long as I stay focused I think! Setting goals like this should help motivate me get sewing!

What are your sewing plans for August? 🙂

  1. It’s great to hear some organisation. I’m usually jumping all over the place, making mis-matched/ off season clothes!
Just realising I’m going to have to get a move on if I want to give handmade Christmas gifts this year! (Determined for dads shirt to fit!)
    Good luck with your plans!

  2. I recently participated in my first ever sew along. We made 6 sleepwear pieces. They are ready to launch their next sew along and I will participate again. This keeps me on track. Love your August choices. Hope you post photos of the finished items.

    1. I’ve been wanting to try a sew along! I haven’t found one I like yet though but I’m on the lookout! It’s definitely good motivation to sew to a deadline!

  3. I am interested to see your hack of the Deer and Doe pattern- I would love to know what you think of the pattern in general! The peach fabric you chose for it reminds me of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!

    1. Seconded! I like the shirt and am very curious about your upcoming dress version. I’m looking forward to reading about that hack 🙂 Happy sewing!

  4. Your fabric choices are gorgeous, as usual! I am hoping to get some muslins sewn up for two special occasion dresses. Not the most exciting sewing August, but it must be done!

    1. I hope so! Though I need to get cracking on the simplicity projects ASAP. I’ve been procrastinating over them for what feel like forever! I think once I get started it’ll be fine but it seems like a huge mountain to climb at the mo! 🙁

  5. Emily – the next sew along has been announced. You need to sew 8 items by December 15. The theme is destination. This can be a travel wardrobe or just something you wear on you destination to work, parties, workouts etc. They have a Facebook group called Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests where you can get more info. It is a closed group but just send a request to join and they will let you. I am planning Destination-Inspiration. Sewing my 8 items from various inspirations I have from catalogs, etc. Hope you will join us!

    1. Thanks! I’ve just sent a request to join the group. I like the destination theme and it definitely sounds like something I’ll enjoy doing! I’ve been thinking of doing a holiday wardrobe anyway so perfect timing! ☺️

  6. You have some really nice projects there, l’ll enjoy seeing them made up! My goal for August, is to finish the winter coat I started in January and have the quilt for my daughter’s BFF sandwiched and quilting started, and hopefully the test drive for a wool skirt for MIWW. Time will tell; good luck with your goals!

    1. Good luck with yours too! Sounds like you’ve got plenty to get stuck into! Kudos on trucking through with the coat – I cut one for my dad last December and it’s never actually made its way to a sewing machine…

  7. Great plans! I bought the Mélilot this weekend so looking forward to seeing your versions; doubt I’ll get to it in August. I’m also planning to take part in the Simplicity Sewing Challenge, making a skirt.

  8. That’s a full list , I need deadlines or I flitter off distracted by ideas on blogs or pins and end up with a dozen ideas and many additions to my stash !!
By the end of August I need to have finished the first two sketch ideas in my notepad ! Thank you the motivation .

    1. It’s definitely good giving yourself goals and working towards them. It’s good motivation! I’m about halfway through my list so far so just a little behind schedule!
