An Adrift midi dress hack

I made my first Papercut Adrift dress just a few weeks ago (check it out here!) and immediately decided it’s the perfect summer holiday dress – it’s light and airy and relatively modest for those visits to religious sites etc. And with my upcoming holiday to Egypt and Jordan at the end of the month, I knew I’d need another one of these in my suitcase!

I wanted to make a longer version of this dress – to me modest means covering the chest, shoulders and knees and the original pattern is a little on the short side. I had the idea of making a midi length plain skirted version with a side split to allow for movement.

This was a ridiculously easy hack as I ended up just using the back skirt pattern piece for both the front and back thereby eliminating the wrap front. I seed the side seam leaving a slit on both sides.

I made the bodice exactly as before. The only adjust I made here was to position the openings for the drawstring to the centre rather than the side.

I used a really lovely fabric which was sent to me from a French company called La Panda Love Fabrics which specialises in organic cotton double gauze. They have a whole range of plains and prints. I didn’t know you could get double gauze in so many colours!

I tried but there was no hope of matching up those stripes on the sides. The lines aren’t straight and they just wouldn’t cooperate!

I really love the simplicity of this pattern – it’s quick and easy to put together with no fitting issues. An absolute pleasure to sew!
