Monthly Roundup #4

Another month of fun things has passed! May was yet another busy one for me, full of lovely sewing things and far too much fabric shopping. Get ready for another photo heavy post!

In the news…

We had the first London Stitchers meet up at the beginning of the month. Ana (of CocoWawa Crafts) and Giorgia (@1stitchforward) held the inaugural meeting at a little pub in Victoria which quickly got overrun with a crowd of sewists! It was a lovely Spring evening out and we saw a whole host of old faces and new turn up. I can’t wait until the next of these monthly meetings! (Check out the Facebook group here for future dates!)

I (rather randomly) ended up on a little sewing getaway with Megan and Gabby (of The Stitcher’s Brew podcast) and Maddie (@thimblebee) to Margate where a new sewing shop was opening!

We stayed at a little Airbnb in the middle of the countryside and then spent a day sewing at Sew by the Sea with occasional breaks to the seaside for ice-cream!

Traid in Dalston had a sale of all it’s vintage fabrics that had been donated over the years. It was absolute mayhem as everyone scrambled to good stuff! Prices were kept super low – £10 for a whole roll of fabric or £6 for as much stuff as you could fit into one bag. I managed to grab a couple of wool pieces as well as a huge bolt of faux black leather.

I also went to the Peter Jensen fabric sample sale. The designer’s studio was clearing out some of their old stock and had a little weekend sale open to the public. I got some amazing pieces!

After all that fabric shopping I felt it was high time to get rid of some of some unwanted pieces from my fabric stash. I held a de-stash over on Instagram and sold about 40 pieces of fabric to people all over the world. It’s still not made that big of a dent in the pile of fabrics I have stowed away in my sewing room so I think I’m going to have another clear out sale in a couple of months. Follow my de-stash account here to be the first in the know!

The applications for the new season of the Great British Sewing Bee opened and closed this month. I’m hoping to see lots of people I know in the final line up. I can’t wait for it to be back on our screens!

What I’ve been watching/ reading/ listening to…

It’s been a month of Marvel for me! I saw the latest Avengers movie as well as Deadpool 2 (who can resist Ryan Reynolds?). I also started watching Marvel’s Runaways on Syfy. It’s been a superhero kind of month!

I’ve finally caught up on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Netflix. I’m obsessed with this show at the mo! Can’t wait to see who’s crowned the winner in the next few episodes!

What I’ve been learning…

I took the Jeans Masterclass with Heather Lou of Closet Case Patterns at The New Craft House over the first bank holiday weekend of the month. Check out the jeans I made here!

It looks like they’re planning another couple of these classes in September this year. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in London!

What have you all been up to in the last month? 😄
