Sewing the Spring/ Summer trends

I haven’t done one of these posts in a long time (and it’s probably slightly late for the current season but never mind)!

I am always influenced to some extent by what’s on the catwalks and in the shops. How could I not be when I see so much of it in our day to day lives? I don’t think it’s a bad thing though! It’s a great source of inspiration!

Here are a few of my favourite spring and summer looks from the high street and the runways (and how I think you could achieve them!):

1. Dungarees/ overalls

The latest pattern from Closet Case – the Jenny Overalls – fits the bill perfectly for this trend. The cropped wide leg and fitted waist gives a flattering on trend silhouette.

2. Frills galore!

We can’t seem to shift the frills at the moment! I love the girly vibe that anything frilly brings. The Trend Pattern TPC14 above embodies that. If you’re not brave enough for full out frills like this, try the Deer & Doe Myosotis dress instead!

3. Wide legged pants are all the rage right now! This wrap hack of the Winslow Culottes from Helen’s Closet just epitomises this style. They also look super duper comfy!

4. Big sleeves…

… Are here to stay! This pattern from Trend is practically identical to this one I found online. Just crop it to the waistline (if you’re brave enough)!

5. A classic pencil skirt

Classic midi skirts in funky prints with a matching slogan tee? This is right up my alley. There are tons of pencil skirt patterns out there at the moment. Try this one from Sew Over It or my Tilly and the Buttons Arielle hack lengthened to mid calf. Just don’t forget to add a vent in the back so you can walk!

Of course there’s many more trends and patterns to match up, there’s just not enough time in the world to do so! I hope I’ll be able to make some of the above – I’ve got a couple of the patterns lined up to make!

What are you guys making this summer? 😊

  1. One trend I’ve been following is the jumpsuit – I always have trouble finding the right jumpsuit or even the right jumpsuit pattern but True just released the Yari and it’s the one I’ve been waiting for (not surprising that the creator of the Ogden Cami would nail it 🙂 ) It’s available now in PDF and it will be going for print as well so I’m waiting….

    1. Oh I don’t think I’ve seen that one yet! I love it when a pattern turns up that’s just what you were looking for!

  2. I’ve been on a custom printed Lycra kick lately, so I’m thinking of making a sleeveless Paddleboarding/Beach baby doll style dress 🤙 Might be fun to surf in too 🏄🏼‍♀️
