DIY dressmaking + crafts with Emily

A change of pace with a crochet project!

Sewing lends itself well to other crafty hobbies and knitting and crocheting is one I’ve picked up on the way. Keeps the hands busy in between sewing projects!

Most recently I undertook making a few gifts for some friends who are about to have their first babies (exciting times)!

My speciality has always been crocheting bunnies for some reason. So most of the people I know who’ve had babies have received one of these! I don’t actually think the babies like them (they tend to like hard and colourful things they can chew on) but I think they’d look so cute in a nursery! So I guess they’re mostly for decorative purposes…

I also managed to squeeze in time to crochet a whole baby blanket! Which may be big enough just to be a blanket without the baby… I didn’t do a gauge test. My bad.

It’s gorgeous though, in the grey and cream stripe. And super soft and snuggly! I was so tempted just to keep it for myself as a throw for my sofa!

The wool for the blanket is from Hobbycraft and is a 70% acrylic and 30% merino. The bunny is made of an acrylic wool I’ve had lying around for a while…

N. B. The Hobbycraft wool says it’s dry clean only but I stuck it in the washing machine at 30deg and a slow spin and it was absolutely fine if anyone needs to know!

  1. Omg I love that cute little guy, he’s wonderful. I tried knitting before taking up sewing but I couldn’t get the hang of it but never tried crochet, maybe I’ll give it a go as I’m not good at doing nothing. I can cross stitch and needle felt but seeing these lovely makes makes me want to crochet.

    1. You should! I find crochet quicker and more fun than knitting. Plus it’s easier to work on big projects like a blanket as there’s no needle length problems!

      1. Thanks! Lovely the colours you chose, by the way. So nice not to see blue or pink for a change for baby items! πŸ™‚

        1. Thanks! I wanted it be gender neutral (and stylish) so they could use it if they have more kids. Or just stick it on a sofa/ bed as a throw… It’s all about being multifunctional these days!
